Parity Talk ("Parity," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Parity mobile application and the website paritytalk.app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information and personal data when you use our services. For the purposes of applicable data protection law (including the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679, the UK Data Protection Act 2018, and the California Consumer Privacy Act), your data will be controlled by us.

We take our privacy obligations seriously. Please read this privacy policy carefully as it contains important information on who we are and how and why we collect, store, use, and share your personal data. It also explains your rights in relation to your personal data and how to contact us.

1. Types of personal information we collect

The personal data we collect may include:

1.1 Information you provide directly

Your name, email address, and pronouns (optional) during profile setup or Sign in with Apple
Your neurological profile, including self-reported neurotypes (e.g., ADHD, Autistic, AuDHD, PDA, OCD, Dyslexic)
Your communication challenges and personal context
Connection profiles you create, including names, relationships, neurotypes, ages, pronouns, and descriptions of people you communicate with
Text you enter for translation or conversation in Translate and Talk modes
Follow-up feedback you optionally provide about conversation outcomes
Your age and date of birth (optional)

1.2 Sensitive information

We collect sensitive information about you during the course of providing you access to the Parity app, specifically health-related information including neurological profiles and neurotypes. We will only collect this sensitive information where you consent to such collection by providing it directly through the app interface.

Your sensitive information will only be used for the purposes of providing you with our services, generating personalized translations, and improving the app experience. Your sensitive information will only be disclosed to Anthropic's Claude API for the purpose of generating translations and coaching responses, as described in Section 3.

1.3 Information collected automatically

Device type, operating system version, and app version
Anonymous usage analytics (feature usage frequency, session duration) via RevenueCat
Crash reports and performance data
Subscription status and purchase history (managed by Apple and RevenueCat)

1.4 Information we do NOT collect

We do not collect location data or geolocation information
We do not collect contacts or address book data
We do not collect health data from HealthKit or similar frameworks
We do not record audio — voice input is processed entirely on-device by Apple's Speech framework and only the transcribed text is used
We do not use cookies or similar tracking technologies (the app is native iOS, not web-based)

2. How we use your personal information

2.1 Primary purposes

To provide translations and coaching: Your profile, connection profiles, and relevant conversation history are used to construct personalized AI prompts that generate relevant translations and advice.
To improve over time: Conversation outcomes are summarized by AI and stored in your connection profiles to make future translations more personalized. These summaries are stored locally on your device and in your encrypted cloud backup.
To manage your subscription: Your purchase information is processed by Apple and RevenueCat to manage your subscription status.
To provide cloud backup: If you sign in with Apple, your data is backed up to Supabase cloud storage for cross-device restoration.
To communicate with you: To respond to your inquiries, send administrative messages, and provide support.

2.2 Secondary purposes

For purposes closely related to the primary purposes, in circumstances where you would reasonably expect such use
Where we reasonably believe use is necessary to lessen or prevent a serious threat to life, health, or safety
Any other purpose for which we receive your consent
Any other purpose permitted or required under applicable privacy laws

3. AI processing and third-party data sharing

3.1 Anthropic (Claude API)

When you use Translate or Talk mode, the text you enter, along with relevant profile and connection context, is sent to Anthropic's Claude API for processing. We send the minimum context necessary to generate a good translation, including your neurotype, your connection's neurotype, learned patterns from previous conversations, and the specific text you want translated. We do not send your full conversation history with every request.

Anthropic processes this data to generate responses and, per their commercial API terms, does not use your data to train their models. Anthropic's privacy policy governs their handling of data sent through their API. For more information, visit anthropic.com/privacy.

3.2 RevenueCat

Subscription management is handled by RevenueCat. They receive anonymous device identifiers and purchase data. RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at revenuecat.com/privacy.

3.3 Supabase

Cloud backup data is stored on Supabase infrastructure. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Each user's backup is stored in an isolated folder accessible only with their authenticated credentials via row-level security policies. 3.4 Apple

Sign in with Apple provides your identity token to our app for authentication. Apple's privacy policy governs their handling of authentication data.

3.5 No sale of data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing purposes. We do not use your personal data for advertising or profiling.

4. Data storage and security

Local storage: All of your data (profile, connections, conversations, learned patterns) is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly use cloud backup or initiate a translation/talk session.

Cloud backup: If you sign in with Apple and use the backup feature, your data is serialized as JSON and uploaded to Supabase Storage. Backups are encrypted in transit and at rest. Each user's data is isolated using row-level security policies. Cloud storage servers may be located outside your country of residence.

API calls: Data sent to the Claude API for processing is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS 1.2+). API calls are stateless — Anthropic does not retain your conversation data after generating a response, in accordance with their commercial API data retention policy.

Security measures: We take reasonable steps to ensure your personal data is secure and protected from misuse or unauthorized access. Our systems use encryption, access controls, and security best practices. However, we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your personal data.

5. Data retention

Local data: Stored on your device until you delete it via Settings → Delete All Data. Deleting the app removes all local data.
Cloud backups: Stored until you delete your account, sign out, or request deletion. You can delete your cloud backup at any time from the app's Settings.
API processing: Anthropic does not retain input/output data from API calls beyond the time needed to generate a response.
Account data: We will retain your authentication data for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion, we will securely destroy your data within 30 days.

6. Your rights and choices

You have various rights with respect to our use of your personal data:

Access: All of your data is visible and accessible within the app at all times. You have the right to request a copy of personal data we hold about you.
Rectification: You can edit your profile, connections, and learned patterns at any time within the app.
Erasure: You can delete all local data from Settings → Delete All Data. You can delete your cloud backup by signing out. You have the right to request deletion of all personal data we hold.
Restriction: You have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal data in certain circumstances.
Portability: Your data is stored as standard JSON and can be exported via cloud backup.
Objection: You have the right to object to processing of your personal data for direct marketing purposes.
Withdraw consent: You may withdraw consent to our collection, use, or disclosure of your sensitive information at any time by contacting us. You can opt out of cloud backup by not signing in with Apple. Follow-up check-ins are off by default and can be toggled in Settings. Voice input can be disabled by declining microphone permission.
Complaints: If you believe your data protection rights have been breached, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the applicable supervisory authority (in the EU, your local Data Protection Authority; in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).

7. Providing information for someone else

If you are providing personal and/or sensitive information on behalf of someone else (such as creating a connection profile), you warrant that you have the consent of that person to provide their information to be collected, used, and disclosed in accordance with this privacy policy.

If you are providing personal and/or sensitive information on behalf of someone under the age of 18 (a Minor), you must be that Minor's parent or legal guardian and you must provide consent for the Minor's information to be collected, used, and disclosed in accordance with this privacy policy.

8. Children's privacy

Parity is designed for adults (18+) and parents of neurodivergent children. The app is not intended for unsupervised use by any person under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete that information.

When parents create connection profiles for their children, the information entered is stored locally on the parent's device and in their encrypted cloud backup, and is used solely to personalize translations for the parent.

9. International transfers

Parity is operated from the United States. Your data may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or other jurisdiction with data protection laws, we will ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers, which may include standard contractual clauses.

By using the app, you consent to the transfer of your data as described in this section.

10. Marketing

We may from time to time send you administrative communications related to your account and the Service. We will not send you marketing communications unless you have explicitly opted in. You can opt out of any communications at any time by contacting us.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date. Where we make significant changes, we will endeavor to notify you by email. Your continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
